Rather Jane Welch
Anna Maria Island Artist, Entrepreneur, Mother
Rather moved to Anna Maria Island, FL in 2016 from Crested Butte, CO. A graduate of Western State Colorado University (Class of December 2003), she called the Gunnison Valley home for almost 16 years since growing up just west of Denver in Evergreen, CO. Rather holds a BA in Business with a minor in Art from WSCU, and a Nutritional Health Coaching Certificate from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. More importantly, she holds a passion for family, adventure, creativity and nature close to her heart. She considers her style a “no rules” approach to classical teachings of art, health, wellness and family life. She believes in her intuition and inherent knowledge of her unique self to guide her way.
While her career in art has a few chronological holes in it (mostly for other entrepreneurial or adventurous escapades), she has considered herself an artist since an early age – inspired by her grandmother for painting practically everything she could get her hands on. After college, she opened an art supply store/gallery/workspace called Rather Be Creative where she worked with her community and University to grow the creative arts in the small mountain town of Gunnison, CO. Health coaching helped her heal from a potentially debilitating autoimmune disease and she enjoys sharing the tips and tools for healthful living she learned along the way. Motherhood, getting used to the Florida heat, and owning/operating a business with her husband, Nate, have been the primary focuses of the last few years. Rather is excited to offer her latest exhibit of artistic inspiration to this Florida community and plans to continue to do so in other shows, local galleries and online. The beaches of Anna Maria Island are the perfect source for inspiration, much like the beautiful mountain towns of Colorado that she is used to.
