"Pretty Bird"
When we first moved to Florida, the entryway to our home had a forest of Birds of Paradise we had to walk past to get to the door. I swear it was 10-feet high and was home to the largest colony of lizards on the island. I was simultaneously fascinated and terrified by what that forest may have housed. Hurricane Irma flattened it in 2017, along with a handful of trees in our yard. We were grateful to still have a home, and to be renting and not have to deal with the clean-up. That same space is now crushed shell and potted plants. I still miss the Pretty Birds that used to greet us.
