Today I surprised myself by picking up our chalk pastels to explore a little on top of some previous paintings. My intention was to work on the watercolors we did last week in Art Session 11, and I did play around a little with the pumpkins but I also worked on some other things. I was really digging how the pastels were feeling on top of the acrylic paint we scraped around. I ended up finishing a little landscape on one piece that I might just frame to gift to someone. Be sure to bring a few old unfinished paintings to this session, but even if you don't have anything to work on top of, I hope you can still enjoy exploring some materials with us for a little Creative Practice. Enjoy!
Wow, this was a fun project! It's officially the Halloween month, so the spooky decor has graced our house and we're getting excited about costumes and birthday parties. This week we explored a project I've seen a couple ladies do on Instagram, with our own little holiday spin. I used my watercolor paints and full sheets of watercolor paper, feel free to keep it smaller to practice, I got over-zealous with the big sheets and will be going back into these projects to finish them next week. Enjoy!
Today's Be Creative Session was an opportunity to tap back into some of the pieces we Created over the 2 weeks I was away from my home studio. We used our Acrylic Paint Markers as well as miscellaneous black pens and markers. Feel free to add any color to any piece you may be working on, or seems to call to you. This Creative Session was really valuable to me because it was rushed and felt 'squeezed in' to my schedule. I'm incredible grateful for the space to show up authentically and simply flex my Creative muscles for the sake of exercising. Thinking Creatively is a valuable resource that we can build within if we choose to. Happy to be doing this with you!
Welcome to another Be Creative Session - On the Road again. Today we played with Acrylic Paints outside on my parent's porch in Evergreen, CO. Please be mindful of how permanent Acrylic paint can be, this will require either quick cleanup (while it's still wet), or preparing your surface by covering with newspaper or a reusable tablecloth. Wear old clothes or an apron. You'll notice today we used a lot more paper towels than usual, this is also because of the permanence of Acrylic paint - I'm away from my studio rags and didn't want to be staining all the towels in my mom's kitchen. You'll want to have plenty of ability to wipe up paint, there will be excess with this method. We used watercolor paper cut into 1/4 sheets, any card stock, poster board, or mixed media paper will work great. If you have any scraping tools (from screen printing perhaps) collect them, otherwise use recyclables for both your painting surface and to scrape the paint. Hope you enjoy this fun new method I've been playing with!
This Art Session was scheduled at a later time than usual (7pm vs. 11am or 3pm), and it's interesting how it feels different. Also, my family joined me towards the end, so we got distracted and everyone painted for the last part. Unscripted and unedited is how we roll over here. Before that, we explored creating patterns in some of our older pieces. We worked with our Posca paint pens from the Shoebox Studio, or you could also use any other fine- tipped marker or pen and achieve the same effect. This one definitely dips into the therapy side of things... it's a simple, almost Zenful exercise that is great for the busy mind (if you resist this one, that's likely you!). It's not something I dabble in often, but I can appreciate the way it stretches my Creative Brain (because I, too, don't like to slow down). Enjoy!
Today we explored the Acrylic Ink from our Shoebox Studio. The Creatives who joined us had a few extra colors so we were able to explore mixing the inks on 3 different papers - mixed media, watercolor, and yupo paper. Enjoy exploring in the same way with watercolors if you don't have the multiple colors of inks available to you.
